Recently married couple Cath and Glenn bought their first home in a leafy Sydney suburb in early 2008. Sharing an experience that many first homebuyers can relate to, making their new house their home required some TLC.
We share their story to transform their tired old bathroom into a focal point of their home.
“We wanted something elegant yet simple that wouldn’t date quickly, neutral colours with high quality fittings were a must have” Cath said.
“After living in the house for a while we realised that the existing layout worked well so kept everything in the same position and maintained a spacious feel.”
Tiles
“I opted for a brick pattern style on the walls from floor to ceiling, as I wanted something a little different”
“Tiles make up most of the bathroom, they can either make or break the bathroom, so we chose a neutral colour palette that wouldn’t date, we knew we could add splashes of colour with towels and accessories so the plan was just to keep it simple”
Cath & Glen chose white tiles for the walls and an earthy grey for the floor
Products Used:
• Walls - 600 x 300 white rectified tile
• Shower feature – 21 x 25 Vetro Bianco Lux Modular glass mosaic
• Floor – 1200 x 200 Belgique light grey internal
Fittings
The existing bathroom whilst still functional had older water consuming products, that desperately needed a visual refresh, some smart water saving fittings would also do the bills and the environment a favour.

Basin & Vanity – “The vanity in my view had to be beautiful and functional with lots of useful storage, we wanted a quality stone surface with a stylish, curvaceous basin as the centrepiece”
