Caroma Dorf recently lent its support to the community, helping a Mount Druitt family remodel their bathroom to cater to the special needs of their wheelchair‐bound son.
The Rositano family who live in Mt. Druitt in Sydney’s West, had been using the same bathroom for their disabled son George, for over 20 years and it was becoming increasingly difficult for Mrs Rositano to lift George in and out of the bath, it was time for a change.
After finding out the difficulties the family had with their bathroom, Caroma Dorf met with the family to discuss their requirements and help design a new bathroom along with Sam Nucifora from Upgrade Bathrooms.
Bath
The centrepiece of the Rositano family’s newly renovated bathroom is the Caroma Starlett Steel Bath. Builder, Sam Nucifora understood their need for space to manoeuvre both a wheelchair and swing lift, and suggested the family remove their original shower in favour of a bath. The entire bathroom was tiled first and then a specially designed bath hob was built with clear space kept underneath for the swing lift to be manoeuvred in and out.
Shower
To allow greater showering flexibility the Caroma Track Shower on Rail was installed above the bath. It features both a removable handpiece and overhead shower with adjustable height to accommodate care related bathing needs.
Toilet
Designed to provide balance and stability for George, the Caroma Care 800 Close Coupled Toilet Suite was included, it provides an elevated seat height and extended pan projection from the wall for improved wheelchair accessibility. The toilet also uses Caroma’s Smartflush® technology to deliver the ultimate in water‐saving.
Basin
Offering practicality without compromising on style, the bathroom also features the Caroma Cube 500 Above Counter Basin with a Dorf Jovian mixer and Caroma Cosmo accessories.
George’s brother, Rocco, says the new bathroom has made a difference to the whole family. “It makes life so much easier”, he says. “Before, there were some days Mum could not lift him because her back would get so sore. Now she can move him around without much difficulty,” Rocco said.
