Whether you plan to change a few fittings to update the look of your bathroom or are building a new room from scratch, it is important to consider what tapware you plan to use for your bathroom. With a limitless range of tapware to choose from, the choosing process can be tedious, but an idea of the emerging trends in the tapware market, will certainly give you a head start.
Tapware has come a long way in technology and design, from nickel-plated brass used in the 1930s, to the introduction of chrome and gold finishes in the 1990s. Since moving into a new decade, “The trends for tapware are moving towards softer designs,” says Dr Steve Cummings, Research & Development Manager at Caroma Dorf.
While it is important to choose tapware according to their function and ease of use, a
well-thought bathroom design will always be inspired by emerging trends.
“We are also seeing the emergence of softer, organic designs.”
Apart from softer designs and detailing, “geometrical shapes are still prominent.” Dorf’s Jovian, Arc and Minko ranges are perfect examples of this trend, according to Dr Cummings.
“Jovian has a distinctive appearance, featuring sharp, distinctive lines combined with smooth edges.” The Arc range is simpler with, “straight lines and curved edges”. Influenced by oriental design, the Minko collection has “sleek lines and chic designs.” Click here to view Dorf’s range of tapware.
While current designs epitomise elegant and utilitarian designs, Dr Cummings believes the shift to softer organic designs is due to the
fact suppliers are moving into new directions. The progressive focus on water saving benefits is also prevalent. Although this is hardly a new trend, consumers are increasingly making water efficiency a priority, especially when choosing tapware.
“The drought, water shortages and government legislation on water usage have really increased public awareness about water use.”
Not only are consumers requesting for water-saving products, suppliers are also responding with water-saving technologies.
Dr Cummings says, “Companies like Caroma Dorf are continuing to supply tapware which uses smart technologies to save water without compromising on performance.”
