Water Conservation From The World's Driest Populated Continent To help reduce Australia’s water consumption, the Federal Government introduced national mandatory labelling and water performance standards to a range of water-using products from 1 July 2006. The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme is designed to help consumers make informed choices about the water-using products they select for their homes by providing a consistent benchmark from which to compare products. The Scheme encompasses many water-using products, including toilet suites. Similar to the energy efficiency rating scheme, WELS uses a 6-star rating scale, along with a water consumption figure, to identify a product’s water efficiency. The more stars means the product is more water efficient. All Caroma Smartflush® toilet suites achieve a high WELS 4 star rating. Caroma has focused its R&D efforts in extending its highly successful Smartflush® dual flush sanitaryware and W.E.T.® (Water Efficient Tapware) technology into most product ranges on offer to the market. Concurrently, extensive R&D work has been undertaken by the company to ensure that all products are in compliance with the Federal Government’s WELS (Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme) that by legislation, commenced on 1 July 2006.
