Caroma Invisi™ Series II toilet suite has won the highly acclaimed 2009 Australian Design Award in the Housing & Building category.

This award is in recognition of Invisi’s unique design and innovation. Invisi Series II surpasses all other in-wall systems with its unique ‘in the wall water saving technology' and ease of installation for commercial and domestic applications. Until now, concealed systems were generally confined to use in commercial and public environments, as they were not generally compatible with the wall construction of standard domestic houses and buildings.

With the Invisi and Icon Series II toilet suites, Caroma undertook an extensive research program to completely review how in-wall toilet systems could be improved to meet market needs and desires as well as construction standards and requirements.

Some of the key issues that were identified and solved by design include:

• Development of a versatile installation system that provides for structural floor/metal frame.
• A bracket/waste fitting and integrated cistern that fits into a standard domestic 90mm wall cavity.
• Bracket/waste fitting design that incorporates a time saving adjustment and rough-in fixing system.
• An under counter version with unique compact design that allows for installation below counter.
• A range of modern rectangular and round push button concepts.
• Pan options incorporate 4.5/3L Smartflush® technology.

In winning the 2009 Australian International Design Award, Caroma Invisi Series II demonstrated that its design is a shining example of Australian innovation developing worldclass technology that breaks new ground in the Housing & Building area.



2007 Australian Design Award - Caroma H2Zero™ Cube Urinal

The Caroma H2Zero™ Cube Urinal has won the inaugural Award for Excellence in Sustainable Design at the Australian Design Awards held on Friday 11 May 2007.  The H2Zero™ Cube Urinal was selected from a shortlist of 32 environmentally friendly entries for its breakthrough design, allowing it to be the first truly viable and sustainable high-performance, waterless urinal option.

The H2Zero™ Urinal also won the Australian Design Award for Excellence in Australian Design in the Housing and Building category, as well as being one of six products nominated for Australian Design Award of the year. Entries were judged against a common set of criteria, including innovation, visual appeal, functionality, originality, quality, ergonomics, safety, sustainability, and commercial viability. In addition, the urinal remains in the running for the International Index Award, which will be awarded in October this year.

The H2Zero™ Cube Urinal incorporates leading patented cartridge technology with a one-way, airtight valve that seals the urinal from the drainage system eliminating the need for chemical based seals used traditionally with waterless urinals. This also prevents unnecessary waste build-up within the cartridge by allowing urine to freely pass through the seal and into the drainage system. The urinal’s cartridge also houses the Bio Fresh deodorising block that is activated during use.

Conservatively, when compared to standard 2L flushing urinals in a typical CBD office tower, the H2Zero™ Cube would save 2.301 million litres of water per annum and currently satisfies all targets for sustainability, water conservation, and environmental impact, and is classed as a green inclusion within developments where specified.

Winning these accolades from the Australian Design Awards is recognition of Caroma’s ongoing commitment to sustainable design. Following its double Australian Design Awards win, the Caroma H2Zero™ Cube Urinal will be displayed at the Powerhouse Museum’s Success and Innovation gallery, which illustrates how product designers convert ideas into reality while showcasing significant Australian innovations from the past.
