GWA employs more than 2000 Australians. For over 60 years, Caroma has led the way in quality and innovation. Charles Rothauser founded the company in 1941. Production and technological innovation began in 1945 with Mr. Rothauser's creation of the world's first transfer injection moulder. With this process the company produced the first plastic hypodermic syringe, then in 1956 the "Deluxe" all-plastic cistern. It won the first of many awards for Caroma including the FH Edwards Laurel in 1956. Caroma's history of design and product leadership has been achieved by a total commitment to research and development in all areas of quality, aesthetics and technical excellence. Through constant innovation, Caroma continually provides the most comprehensive range of reliable, high quality, smart and stylish bathroom products in Australia. The Caroma range offers a total bathroom solution which includes toilet suites, basins, tapware, bathware, commercial and care products (for the disabled and elderly). Caroma has focused its Research & Development efforts in extending its highly successful Smartflush® dual flush sanitaryware and water efficient tapware technology into most product ranges on offer to the market. Concurrently, extensive R&D work has been undertaken by the company to ensure that all products are in compliance with the Federal Government’s WELS (Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards) Scheme that by legislation, commenced on 1 July 2006. Caroma is the only manufacturer of toilet suites in Australia. Caroma places great importance on quality throughout the manufacturing process.
